What is Pradhan Mantri PM – Surya Ghar Yojana 2024?

The PM – SURYA GHAR: MUFT BIJLI YOJANA 2024: is the Government of India’s national program on Rooftop solar systems to provide affordable electricity access for all.

It is also commonly known as Rooftop Solar Scheme or PM Solar Scheme.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 22 Jan 2024 announced the rooftop solar scheme. After the approval of the Cabinet, the scheme was rolled out for the general public to apply online on 13 Feb 2024.

Last date to apply online for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana 2024 as of now is 31 Mar 2024.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide free electricity to middle-class and lower-middle-class households in India.

By doing so, the government also wants to reduce dependency on conventional power sources. This scheme is especially beneficial for the residents of remote rural areas by providing an uninterrupted power supply.

Benefits of PM – Surya Ghar Yojana:-

Under PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana scheme, Indian residents are given a subsidy by the Government of India to Install solar panels on their roofs.

Also, PM Narendra Modi informed that the government aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month to approximately 1 crore households in India by implementing this rooftop solar scheme.

The Central government will directly send the amount of subsidy to the bank account of the beneficiary. The government will spend 75000 crore rupees for this scheme.

The lower middle-class and middle-class people of India will benefit the most from this scheme. Their household electricity bill will come to zero.

Also, the government has tied up with different banks to provide low-interest loans for solar panels.

PM- Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Details

Under this scheme, the government provides a 40% subsidy for the first 3 kW and a 20% subsidy beyond 3 kW and up to 10 kW.

PM – Surya Ghar Yojana is implemented in the states by local Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOMs).

Also, you should know that all the DISCOMs have an online process for this scheme.

If you intend to set up a rooftop solar plant, you can apply online and get rooftop solar plants installed by listed vendors.

Note:- You have to pay the cost of the rooftop solar plant by reducing the subsidy amount given by the Ministry as per the prescribed rate to the vendor.

An online portal of the DISCOMs is available to apply online.

To get a subsidy under this scheme, you should install rooftop solar plants only from the empanelled vendors of the DISCOMs following the due process of approval by DISCOMs.

PM – Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Eligibility

We have listed below the eligibility criteria to apply for PM Surya Ghar Yojana are as follows:-

  • This scheme applies only to the residents of India.
  • The government’s main target beneficiaries are economically weaker sections (EWS) and below-poverty line (BPL) households.
  • The applicant should not have availed any other subsidy for solar plant earlier.
  • Also, priority will be given to households who don’t have access to an electricity connection.
  • The beneficiary must reside within the area where the scheme is implemented.
  • The household must be suitable for roof top solar plant installation.
  • The applicant must have a valid electricity connection.

    I have applied for the solar rooftop system loan through Jansamarth portal, on dt. 22nd March 2024
    My application no. is ANS-SOLAR-3972077-19809
    Issue is that this application showing on Jan samarth portal as customer service people told me but not showing to Bank people and my loan process is not done neither bank nor customer care people’s competing each other an I am suffering since one month
